Field notes
What to look for
A small grey-brown rabbit with a short fluffy white tail and relatively short ears. Half the size of a jackrabbit.
Where
Brushy coulees, sagebrush and rock outcrops in the far south, especially around the Milk River and Cypress Hills.
When
Year-round, mostly dusk and dawn.
Tips
Alberta's only cottontail. Never turns white in winter, unlike both hares.
