What to look for
A stocky finch; males look dipped in raspberry juice, females brown with a strong white eyebrow and a streaked breast.
Where
Mixed and boreal forest, parkland edges and feeders.
When
April to October; some winter.
Tips
House finches (males) are redder on the head and breast with streaked flanks; purple finches are raspberry all over.
