What to look for
Breeding males are brilliant yellow with a black cap and wings; winter birds are dull olive-buff. Bouncing flight.
Where
Weedy fields, gardens and thistle patches on the prairie and parkland.
When
May to October.
Tips
The undulating flight with 'per-chick-o-ree' calls. Nests late, in July.
