A soft grey-brown squirrel with huge dark eyes, a flat tail and a furry membrane between wrists and ankles that lets it glide.

Where

Mature mixed and boreal forest across the parkland and north; nests in old woodpecker holes.

When

Year-round but strictly nocturnal; found at bird feeders after dark or gliding between trees at dusk.

Tips

If you see a squirrel at night, it's this one. Enormous eyes and a flattened tail.
