Field notes
What to look for
A small brown or tan frog with a dark 'robber's mask' behind each eye and a pale line down the back. About 5 cm.
Where
Forest ponds, ditches and wet woods everywhere from prairie to boreal.
When
April to September; the duck-like quacking chorus in April, sometimes with ice still on the pond.
Tips
The mask. Alberta's most widespread frog; freezes solid to survive winter.
