What to look for

A slim, small ground squirrel with thirteen alternating dark and light stripes, some broken into spots, running down the back.

Where

Short grass, golf courses, cemeteries and roadsides on the southern and central prairie.

When

April to September; hibernates.

Tips

The only striped ground squirrel on the prairie. Chipmunks live in woods and rock and have facial stripes.
