A black, long-necked waterbird with an orange throat pouch and a hooked bill, often perched with wings spread to dry.
Where
Prairie and parkland lakes with islands or dead trees for nesting.

Sits low with the bill tilted up; loons have a straight dagger bill and hold wings closed.
