Field notes
What to look for
A massive raptor; adults have a white head and tail on a dark brown body with a yellow bill. Juveniles are mottled brown for four years.
Where
Rivers, lakes and reservoirs across the province; nests in big trees near water.
When
Year-round; gathers at open water and spawning runs in autumn.
Tips
Juveniles are confused with golden eagles; look for the huge bill, mottled white in the wing linings and a shorter tail.
